The statue of the slave trader was later thrown in Bristol's harbour
Police are investigating and Home Secretary Priti Patel has condemned the incident
Conservatives in Bristol have also criticised saying pulling the statue down was "wanton criminal damage"
But protesters disagreed with some saying the statue represents "years of hurt"
