Edward Colston's statue was pulled from its plinth in Bristol city centre on Sunday
It happened during a Black Lives Matter protest
There has been debate about the monument for years - Bristol mayor Marvin Rees described is as an "affront to humanity"
The statue of the slave trader was later thrown in Bristol's harbour
Police are investigating and Home Secretary Priti Patel has condemned the incident
Conservatives in Bristol have also criticised saying pulling the statue down was "wanton criminal damage"
But protesters disagreed with some saying the statue represents "years of hurt"
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees says the statue will be retrieved from the harbour and put in a museum
Bristol band Massive Attack describes Colston's past as "a philanthropy derived from crimes against humanity"
