Chelsea has made the first bid for Croatian midfielder Ivan Lepinjica as they aim to add the Rijeka midfielder to their team.

Chelsea submitted a bid worth €3m-€4m, a valuation that is not enough to convince Rijeka to let go of the 20-year-old defensive midfielder.

Rijeka is holding on €5m for the services of Lepinjica a price Chelsea will have to pay if they are willing to sign the youngster.

Lepinjica is not short of suitors as Championship teams Leeds United and West Brom are also monitoring the situation, both Leeds and West Brom are prepared to guarantee the midfielder first-team football if they secure his signature.

Lepinjica’s contract runs out in 2024 and he is likely to remain at Rijeka for one or two seasons if no suitors meet his price tag.

He has made five appearances for the Croatian U-21 side and he is yearning to make the senior squad and Lepinjica is aware that a move to the bigger club could present him such an opportunity to play for the national team.

it seems Chelsea will be active in the transfer market as they are also interested in signing Real Madrid target Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
